Medical Alert Keychains by Liz Daniel Emporium

Years ago, my best friend’s brother came from New York to California for a visit. One day during his visit, while walking the streets of Los Angeles he succumbed to a stroke.

For months, he was listed as a “John Doe” in the Los Angeles City Morgue because he carried no identification. Meanwhile, his family made many telephone calls, filed missing police reports from New York to California, and had no idea what happened to him.

Fortunately, before he was to be cremated, the man was identified and my friend finally found his brother. This was bittersweet for him and his family; it was sad news indeed, but it brought opportunity for closure as they sent him off properly with a beautiful Celebration of Life.

This blog post is dedicated to my friend’s brother, who died alone, without family on the street in Los Angeles, CA.

From Sadness, Inspiration

It was remembering this story one night that spurred my desire to create a Medical Alerts Collection for the Liz Daniel Emporium shop on Zazzle. My heart cried for my friend and his family during that experience.

Since then, I’ve heard stories about elderly seniors who have walked away from their homes or care facilities, and then were unable remember how to return, due to loss of memory from aging or from conditions such as Alzheimer’s or dementia.

I’ve also heard anecdotal stories about people who had suffered a seizure from some medical condition, but were arrested and taken to jail because the police officers did not recognize their symptoms and thought the person was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

When I hear stories like these, my heart and spirit are moved, and I want to help both law officers and the general public. I want to help solve this problem. And so I have created these Medical Alert Keychains that anyone with a medical condition can keep with them whenever they are traveling. Should an emergency occur, these keychains can communicate life-saving info, even if the person carrying it cannot.

These keychains are editable, so you can list your emergency contact person, medical conditions, doctor, medication, allergies or any other important information that a doctor, nurse, EMT, police officer, or other rescuer needs to know. Unlike a phone or digital watch, the info on these keychains is always available, no internet or power needed.

Medical Alert keychains are not only great gifts for yourself and your loved ones, they just may save a life someday – at least, that is my hope and desire! I leave you with two blessings:

1 – May you all have emergency info available when you need it, and

2 – May you never need it.
